Toronto, Canada-based GS New Media is developing a virtual world for tweens based on the TV series The Saddle Club.

The company, along with Sun Microsystems, is adopting the Project Darkstar open-source online game platform to develop the world set to launch next year.

The Saddle Club is a live-action series based on the bestselling books by Bonnie Bryant and currently airs on public TV stations in the US and Discovery Kids and pubnet TVO in Canada. The Crawford Productions (Australia)/Protocol Entertainment (Canada) co-pro is headed into its third season with 26 x half-hours of The Saddle Club Rides bowing this fall.
