BBC Worldwide scored a 17% increase in profits over the last 12 months, with sales shooting up to 13% to US$1.8 billion.

Operating profits rose 17% to US$232 million in the 12 months ending March 31.

John Smith, chief executive of BBC Worldwide said that sales from outside the UK increased from 46% of total sales to 49%.

The lion’s share of the profit growth was delivered by BBC Worldwide’s Sales and Distribution, Home Entertainment and Content & Production business.

Etienne de Villiers, non-executive Chairman of BBC Worldwide, says that the corporation is ‘on track to achieve its five-year growth plan and return a substantial stream of additional funding to its parent, the BBC, for the long term.’
