DreamWorks Studios has acquired the movie rights to Scholastic Media’s new multi-platform adventure series The 39 Clues.

Steven Spielberg is rumored to direct the feature, while Deborah Forte, president of Scholastic Media, will produce the first film.

The 39 Clues is due to launch globally in September as a multi-media adventure that spans 10 supercharged books, 355 collectible cards and an online game.

The story revolves around the Cahills, a powerful family dynasty, the source of whose power is a mystery that can only be unraveled by assembling 39 clues hidden around the world throughout history.

The initiative will roll out over a 24-month period culminating in the film’s theatrical release.
