African pay-TV operator MultiChoice Africa has inked a multi-year distribution deal with MTV Networks International to carry a 24/7 Nickelodeon channel in southern Africa.

Starting on July 1, Nickelodeon will launch a 24-hour English-language channel, with a broadcast scope of more than 1.5 million DSTV subscribers in Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The new channel is planning to broadcast a mix of Nickelodeon’s animated and live-action fare, including mega series Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants, Drake & Josh and Unfabulous.

The outlet is meant to complement the wide range of Nick programming currently airing on MultiChoice’s DSTV channel, K-All Day.
