Sesame Workshop hosted its sixth-annual benefit dinner on Wednesday night in honor of Michael and Susan Dell, and Time Warner chairman Richard D. Parsons who received the Global Leadership Award and Corporate Leadership Award, respectively.
Both recipients were being honored for their support of Galli Galli Sim Sim, the Indian version of Sesame Street.
The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, established in 1999 by the Dell family, committed US$2 million to the series over a five-year period to research, develop, and implement educational interventions in India’s slum areas. The initiative is estimated to have reached more than 1.5 million children and caregivers in the nation.
Parsons was recognized for Time Warner’s commitment to bringing the popular preschool series to both public and cable television, and for his outstanding corporate and civic leadership.
