The fledging US arm of the Egmont Group is getting its inaugural fall list of the ground by signing a two-book deal with Newbery Honors and Coretta Scott King Award-winning author Walter Dean Myers.

Myers will launch the books this Fall – a historical novel and a picture book with illustrator Christopher Myers.

The deal marks Walter Dean Myers’ 20th anniversary working with Regina Griffin, who was recently named Egmont’s executive editor. She edited Myers’ Somewhere in the Darkness (Scholastic), which received a Newbery Honor; and Jazz(Holiday House) among other titles.

Egmont USA will publish young adult and middle-grade fiction and picture books. Random House is handling all sales and distribution.
