Ravensburger has inked a deal with Smileyworld for the first ever 2-D and 3-D puzzles featuring the black and yellow Smiley icon.

Ravensburger’s Smileyworld Puzzleball is made up of 60 curved, sturdy plastic pieces that fit together to form a round ball. The pieces are connected by following the numbers that appear on the underside of each piece, resulting in a novel object that brings that famous Smileyworld mood icon into three dimensions.

The company has also produced a more traditional game in the form of a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle. When fully assembled, the jigsaw reveals a crowd of Smileys in various states of Smileydom.

Both puzzles were exhibited at 2008 international toy fairs.

The Smiley brand was launched in 1971 by Franklin Loufrani as an icon to highlight good news in a French newspaper.
