Exodus Film Group has inked a deal with Tyler Perry Productions to co-produce a series of animated DVDs inspired by Perry’s popular Madea character.
The character has become a cottage industry for the US writer, director and actor, and has spun-off to three big screen theatrical releases Madea’s Family Reunion, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and the upcoming Meet the Browns. In the US, the films have a combined gross of more than US$200 million.
The yet untitled toon projects will feature Madea in kid-friendly adventures that strive to teach a young audience the importance of family values.
Under the arrangement, Tyler Perry Productions and Exodus will jointly develop and produce the series, with Exodus taking care of the financing.
There is no release date yet for the first DVD.
