Riding the Guitar Hero wave, Santa Monica, California-based Activision was the number-one US console and handheld game publisher in the month of October, increasing its US market share to 28.7%, according to The NPD Group.

For the month of October, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock was the best-selling Xbox 360; PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 and Wii video game title in the US. It was also the first third-party game to take the top spot for the Wii platform.
