Nickelodeon Australia today launched the world’s first SpongeBob SquarePants active wallpaper for mobile phones. Dubbed SpongeBot, the wallpaper features the iconic character as he reacts in his own way to the time of day, calendar date and phone routines.

The loveable sponge will eat, sleep, work and play over a 24-hour and 12 month schedule, making sure to take weekend off and recognize holidays like Valentines Day and Australia’s Leif Erikson Day.

SpongeBot is the result of the NicVic3G1 initiative, a joint program between Nickelodeon Australia and Film Victoria’s Digital Media Fund to finance the production of original next-generation content and delivery systems.

SpongeBob SquarePants is the first character in a planned NickBots line in development. The app is likened to active wallpapers primarily designed for CGI phones but is viable on all handsets with Flash Lite wallpaper capabilities.
