Just in time for the back-to-school computer push, Disney Online has launched Surf Swell Island, a new website for kids devoted to safely navigating the Internet.

Created with the usual Disney flair for integrating education and entertainment, the site is broken into five primary Island locales that demonstrate the various dangers of web abuse and proper Netiquette techniques. And of course, Donald Duck, Goofy, Mickey and Minnie Mouse join the ‘Surfers’ along the way.

For example, to emphasize the importance of Net privacy, Minnie Mouse is featured on No Privacy Beach, an interactive game that helps users understand the risks of giving out personal information on the web. In The Virus Caves, Donald gets lost in a cave riddled with computer viruses. Surfers learn here the importance of deleting unknown e-mail attachments before opening them.

Subtitled ‘Adventures in Internet Safety,’ the site was launched in August as part of Disney’s initiative on Net safety for kids. Surf Swell will be updated periodically to ensure that timely information is available.
