Pokémania is primed to peak again with this summer’s release of Pokémon the Movie 2000, the second feature in the Pokémon trilogy. Animated by Tokyo-based Shogakukan Productions, the film is set to be released across the U.S. by Warner Bros. on July 21. It will see Ash Ketchum and his pocket monster friends back to save the world from a mysterious force that threatens to throw the Pokémon universe out of balance.

Several retail-specific promotions are in the works to help introduce new toys and apparel based on never-before-seen Pokémon characters. Sears will launch a special in-store promotion tied to the feature, Burger King plans a repeat QSR promo and home shopping network QVC will air several specials featuring Pokémon 2000 merch.

According to New York-based Leisure Concepts Incorporated, over 15 Pokémon licensees will produce merch based on the sequel, including Hasbro, Golden Books, Scholastic, Trendmasters and several apparel companies.
