The London-based animation company that owns Thomas the Tank Engine picked up a 50% equity stake in the Sooty property in a deal worth about US$7.3 million. No money will change hands, however, as Britt Allcroft will set up a jointly held company with Sooty International called Bridgefilms. Chatsworth Enterprises manages the licensing program for the mute British puppet that turns 52 this year. Sooty International independently produces the TV show Sooty and Co. for Granada TV.
