CBS has renewed three of the six Nelvana series that were part of a two-year deal struck early last year whereby the Toronto-based toonco would provide all the product for the net’s Saturday morning kids block, and replaces three with new shows.
While Rupert (which earlier switched places with Franklin on Nickelodeon), The Dumb Bunnies and Birdz were not renewed by CBS, 13 episodes of three new Nelvana series have been ordered.
The shows include Blaster (based on an educational CD-ROM series featuring the comic adventures of an Earth boy and an alien girl); Rescue Heroes (an action-adventure series based on Fisher Price toys-a property that was originally at Alliance Atlantis); and The New Tales From The Cryptkeeper (based on Nelvana’s previous series produced in 1993/94).
Nelvana says that all six of the series will conform to the U.S. FCC educational guidelines.
