Mattel has signed on as a licensee for the third world championship for women’s soccer. As part of deal, Mattel will produce a Women’s World Cup Barbie doll to be released in January 1999. Real-life soccer star Mia Hamm of the U.S. Woman’s National Team helped to announce the deal with Mattel at Roxbury Park in Beverly Hills, California. World Cup Soccer Barbie joins other athletic Barbie dolls including WNBA Barbie and Olympic Skater Barbie.
