Clementine, an original property written, drawn and produced by independent producer Jim Benton of J.K. Benton Design Studio, has been acquired by DreamWorks SKG in a two-year development deal. The studio, already bidding for a piece of Disney’s animated feature-film pie with several major releases next year, is also vying to become a major player in TV animation through this and other acquisitions.
According to Benton, DreamWorks is currently pitching Cle-mentine, along with other TV properties, to the networks. Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and ABC recently heard Clementine pitches, but no announcement has been made about whether the property will be picked up.
The animated cartoon centers around the adventures of a 10-year-old girl who has been mistaken for a long-lost queen by 10,000 goblins who emerge from another world out of her closet.
