The first set-top boxes from Palo Alto, California-based WebTV Networks, which allow customers to browse the Internet on their television sets, will hit shelves this fall. The device will be distributed by consumer electronics licensees Sony Electronics and Philips Consumer Electronics, and will run with the subscription-based WebTV Network on-line service. The service will connect to the World Wide Web via phone lines.
