PARIS: The French broadcast regulator Conseil supérieur de l’audiovisuel (CSA) met recently with the presidents of eight French channels-TF1, France 2, France 3, RFO, La Cinquième, M6, Canal+ and Arte-to establish new regulations against violence on television.

CSA president Hervé Bourges favors a system of self-regulation, and recommended that clear and expressive announcements be made before programs containing violence by January 1, 1997.
