KidSafety of America, a publisher of video, print and audio instructional materials for educators, has released The Germ Busters, its first video specifically geared toward the consumer market.

The video, starring Kemi and Zemi from Nickelodeon’s popular Roundhouse series, is an entertaining, humorous learning experience that instructs young children (ages 3 to 7) about the importance of proper personal hygiene.

KidSafety of America’s owners and founders, husband-and-wife team Peter and Margaret Osilaja, decided to expand to consumer products because they believe that more than ever, it’s vital for children to learn about the importance of preventing the spread of germs. Previous KidSafety titles include Child Safety Outdoors, Child Safety at Home and Casey’s First Bus Ride.

The Germ Busters features a heavy African-American and Hispanic presence, something that is lacking in most preschool videos.

The company has no immediate plans to advertise the video. It is relying on word of mouth and good reviews, which tend to be more effective than ordinary advertising in the independent children’s market. The video can be obtained by mail order (1-800-524-1159), as well as in libraries and select video outlets. It retails for US$14.95 and is available this month.
