Parker Brothers has jumped into the cyber world with both feet. The company, in partnership with Virgin Interactive, has introduced a multimedia CD-ROM version of the grandaddy of board games, Monopoly. You and up to seven computer-created opponents race your dog, sh’e or thimble (among others) around the screen and vie for ownership, go to directly to jail, or battle through negotiations for Park Place. When that’s all over you can play fellow capitalists over a LAN (local area network) or Parker Brothers can hook you into a multinational, multilingual game over the Web. So far the only alternatives to English are German and French. The game operates simultaneously in all languages. For more information contact Parker Brothers at (800) 874-4607 or the Monopoly home page at http://www.monopoly.com.

Viacom New Media recently released a CD-ROM game version for PC/Windows and Macintosh of the Paramount film The Indian in the Cupboard. Like the film, the game, aimed at kids six and up, brings toys to life. For more information call (800) 469-2539 or www.viacomnewmedia.com.

Other recently released movie-based CD-ROM titles include Indiana Jones and His Desktop Adventures by LucasArts (call (800) 782-7927 for more information) and a complete video strategy guide for the Mortal Kombat movies in The Ultimate Guide to Mortal Kombat from Threshold Entertainment. Call (212) 930-4451.
