Investments paying off for 9 Story Media Group
Holding strong for the second year in a row in the number-two production spot in Kidscreen’s Hot50 is Toronto, Canada’s 9 Story Media Group.
Along with the fourth season of Wild Kratts reaching all-time ratings highs in the US this year and Peg + Cat winning its the fourth Emmy Award, the independent producer made noise in September when it acquired Irish animation studio Brown Bag Films. (The 2D-focused studio now has 3D CGI animation capabilities for the first time.)
With 12 shows currently in production and reboots of hit series Barney and Angelina Ballerina in the works, 9 Story also recently added an extra 10,000 square feet to its studio facility to accommodate growth. And it continues its mission to nurture talent from within.
“This year we’ve fully invested across our full spectrum of resources, from our staff to our technologies to our facility,” says VP of production, Tanya Green.
On 9 Story’s Hot50 placement, she says the company is pleased, but wants more. “We’re thrilled to be second again, but we’re striving for the top spot, so hopefully we’ll reach it next year,” says Green. “We’re really honored to be among the other amazing studios on the list because they know more than anyone how hard it is to keep things on budget and schedule and show great product.”
