US kidsnet Universal Kids is expanding its unscripted slate with two new series Top Chef Junior: Remix and Create the Escape. Aimed at kids six and up, both shows are in development on half-hour pilots.

Top Chef Junior: Remix, a spin-off of Universal Kids’ Top Chef Junior (pictured), sees three young contestants face off in a two-round cooking and baking competition. Fan favorites from Top Chef and Top Chef Junior serve as mentors and judges, and each episode features a unique theme like camping or sports.

The competition format is produced by Magical Elves, the prodco behind Bravo’s Top Chef and Universal Kids’ Top Chef Junior. Casey Kriley and Jo Sharon serve as executive producers.

Create the Escape, meanwhile, is produced in-house by Universal Kids and taps into the popularity of escape rooms by having three kids design and build an escape room from scratch in each episode, with the help of design experts. Contestants’ family members, teachers or guest celebrities will try to escape the rooms once they’re complete.

These are Universal Kids’ first series commissions since November, when it launched NBC News for Universal Kids to explain current events to ages six to 12 on a daily basis.
