Hello Kitty, the iconic Japanese cat created by Sanrio, is coming back to TV screens in The World of Hello Kitty. Produced by France’s Monello Productions and Watch Next Media in partnership with Sanrio, the 52 x 11-minute series is currently in development for a Q1 2021 launch.

Watch Next’s Kids First distribution arm will handle worldwide financing and distribution, excluding Asia, which is reserved for ABC International. And Sanrio will continue to control licensing and merchandising rights for the property.

Hello Kitty has had close to nine lives on TV already, starring in seven different shows that have aired from 1987 to 2006. They are: Growing up Hello Kitty, Hello Kitty’s Furry Tale Theater, Hello Kitty and Friends, Hello Kitty’s Paradise, Hello Kitty’s Animation Theater, Hello Kitty’s Stump Theater and The Adventures of Hello Kitty and Friends.

Sanrio has also been expanding its live and location-based attractions recently, partnering with Universal Studios Hollywood for an Animation Studio Store featuring all of its characters. And the company tapped InstaVR to build virtual-reality content experiences for its Hello Kitty theme park in Tama, Japan.
