Finnish prodco Ferly (formerly Kaiken Entertainment) is joining forces with Paris-based Zephyr Animation and Canadian prodco Yellow Animation to co-produce a new comedy-adventure series called Gone Gills, about three prehistoric creatures that find themselves stranded in present day.
Ferly was founded by former Rovio executives who co-created Angry Birds. The LA-based startup, with additional offices in Helsinki, went on to buy Rovio’s TV animation studio soon after launching. It then branched out into creating original IPs, announcing in 2017 that it had 11 new projects in the works. More recently, Ferly signed a deal with UK distributor CAKE’s Popcorn Digital to develop and launch content on YouTube.
Zephyr, meanwhile, was founded last fall by French distributor APC Kids to develop original kids projects and co-develop/co-produce properties with global partners. The prodco’s first project out of the gate was Adoonga, a 52 x 11-minute series co-produced with South Korea’s Vooz and expected to launch in 2021.
