The creative teams behind Cartoon Network EMEA’s hit series The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe and Annie-winning animated feature The Breadwinner (pictured) took top honors at the second-annual Emile Awards in Lille, France over the weekend.

Named after animation industry pioneers Emile Cohl and Emile Reynaud, the awards are voted on by members of the European Animation Awards Association and recognize the creative and artistic work done by directors, writers, storyboard artists, animators and engineers on TV and film projects.

Prince Ivandoe and The Breadwinner each took home four awards apiece at the ceremony. Irish director Nora Twomey won in the Best Direction in a Feature Film category for the Canadian, Irish, and Luxembourg co-production, The Breadwinner. Co-produced by Toronto’s Aircraft Pictures, Luxembourg’s Melusine Productions and Ireland’s Cartoon Saloon, the film also snapped up Feature wins for Best Storyboard, Best Character Animation and Best Background and Character Design.

Meanwhile, Danish animators Christian Bøving-Andersen and Eva Lee Wallberg (The Amazing World of Gumball) were triumphant in the Best Direction in a TV/Broadcast Production category for The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe. Commissioned by Cartoon Network EMEA and produced in Denmark by Sun Creature Studio, the 10 x three-minute series tells the tale of a young prince whose father sends him on a quest to retrieve a magical feather from a fearsome king.
