Serious Lunch gets the Gigglebug

The distributor has picked up the rights to Gigglebug Entertainment’s flagship series of the same name.

Brit distributor Serious Lunch has scooped up the rights to Gigglebug Entertainment’s flagship series of the same name, whose star who can induce spontaneous laughter.

Production has recently wrapped on two versions of the 52 x five-minute hand painted animated series—a non-dialogue version and a new English version created for Channel 5′s preschool block Milkshake! The brand is about to publish a fifth picture book and a fourth app later this year, while its first three apps have hit more than a million downloads.

International distribution rights had previously been assigned to Germany’s WDR, which signed them back to Gigglebug following a restructuring of its kids content distribution strategy. However, WDR will continue to manage sales in Germany.

This is not the first time the two companies have worked together. Prodco Eye Present (a joint-venture between Serious Lunch CEO Genevieve Dexter and creative studio Squint/Opera) signed a co-production deal with Gigglebug for its other series Best & Bester earlier this year.
