Beyond Distribution is opening a new kids arm and will bring 950 hours of children’s content to MIPCOM next month.
Beyond Kids is planning to introduce several brand-new productions at the market, including live-action series Mythbusters Jr. (pictured), Wow! That’s Amazing and Gym Stars.
Based on the award-winning Discovery Channel science series, Beyond Productions’ Mythbusters Jr. will feature original MythBuster Adam Savage as host. The 10 x half-hour show will follow Savage and a team of junior MythBusters as they test myths similar to ones featured in the original series.
The new division will also be shopping Wow! That’s Amazing, a 26 x half-hour series co-produced with Germany’s Super RTL that aims to recreate experiments, puzzles and magic tricks performed by tweens at home.
The third offering, Gym Stars, is a 15 x 22-minute series produced by UK-based Drummer Television that showcases the personal and competitive lives of up-and-coming young gymnasts.
The Beyond Kids library will also include BAFTA-winner Ocean Girl (78 x 30 minutes), CBBC’s Numberjacks (66 x 15 minutes), The Dengineers (36 x 30 minutes) and Junior Vets (40 x 30 minutes).
Beyond has had considerable success with its Netflix Original animated series Beat Bugs, which is co-produced with Grace: A Storytelling Company in Australia, as well as Vancouver’s Thunderbird Entertainment and its animation arm Atomic Cartoons. Beyond and Grace are now co-producing Motown Magic for Netflix, a new animated series inspired by classic Motown songs with Smokey Robinson attached as executive music producer. It’s expected to stream later this year.
