LA-based global media company Studio71 has acquired the worldwide film rights to MakerForce 5, a new live-action family adventure movie created by Michael Younesi, the executive producer of Netflix’s hit series Project Mc2.

The movie is the first project from Gadget Studios, a new LA-based prodco and focused on original live-action IPs for families, founded by Younesi and MGA Entertainment CEO Isaac Larian.

MakerForce 5 brings together five kids—a gamer, a comic book geek, an inventor, a skater and a martial artist—to fight off a mysterious invasion that occurs after every parent in the group’s hometown suddenly vanishes. Younesi will write and direct the film, with Studio71 serving as executive producer. A release date for the movie has not been announced.

Following the success of MGA’s STEAM-based series Project Mc2—which to date has delivered six seasons, a global toy line and multiple Emmy nominations—Gadget is looking to develop a slate of original IPs with strong potential for consumer products. To that end, MGA also has a non-exclusive first-look deal with Gadget for toys.

Along with Gadget, Younesi is the co-founder of Concrete Media, an award-winning digital content studio that’s produced work for companies including Disney, DreamWorksTV, Netflix and Hasbro.
