Netflix will roll out DreamWorks’ The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants as an original series on July 13.
The animated series is based on the children’s novels by Dav Pilkey. The books feature mischievous fourth-grade friends George Beard and Harold Hutchins, who end up hypnotizing their principal and turning him into the titular superhero. DreamWorks Animation picked up the book rights and released the CG feature Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie in 2017.
The series is executive produced by Peter Hastings and the voice cast features Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings), Nat Faxon (Ben and Kate), Jay Gragnani (Bubble Guppies), Ramone Hamilton (Will & Grace), David Koechner (Anchorman), Tress MacNeille (The Simpsons), Laraine Newman (Trollhunters), Stephen Root (King of the Hill), Jorge Diaz (Elena of Avalor), Mindy Sterling (Austin Powers), Erica Lutrell (Salvation), Dayci Brookshire (Home Adventures with Tip & Oh) and Evan Kishiyama (Mickey and the Roadster Racers).
In addition to the upcoming premiere of The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, DreamWorks Animation TV recently announced it will also launch new original series Harvey Street Kids, Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, She-Ra, The Boss Baby: Back in Business and Trollhunters season three this year, exclusively on Netflix.
