Disney Junior has ordered a second season of original animated series Fancy Nancy ahead of its July 13 premiere. Based on the New York Times bestselling book series by Jane O’Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser, it will air on Disney Junior, Disney Junior VOD and DisneyNOW.
Each 22-minute episode (consisting of two x 11-minute stories) is aimed at two- to seven-year-olds. The series follows six-year-old Nancy as she finds the extraordinary in ordinary things, and incorporates original songs in a variety of musical genres. The franchise is now in its 13th year and includes more than 60 titles and 28 million books sold in 20 languages.
Produced by Disney Television Animation, it is directed and executive produced by Jamie Mitchell (Sofia the First), while editing and story development is led by Krista Tucker (Sheriff Callie’s Wild West). TJ Hill (Planes: Fire & Rescue) is serving as the composer and Matthew Tishler (Austin & Ally, Teen Beach 2) as the songwriter. The lead voice cast features Rob Riggle (The Lorax), Alyson Hannigan (How I Met Your Mother) and newcomers Spencer Moss and Mia Sinclair Jenness.
Walt Disney Records released the soundtrack, featuring 14 original songs, on all streaming and digital platforms today. Disney is also rolling out a consumer products line featuring role-play items, accessories, apparel and dolls, which will be available at Disney stores, shopDisney.com and US retailers this summer. Additional brand extensions include multiple storybook and early reader book titles from Disney Press.
Ordering additional seasons of shows that have yet to hit the airwaves has become a trend with Disney Channel as of late, having recently renewed a second season of Big City Greens ahead of its June debut. Last week, the network also ordered a third season of Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure (formerly Tangled: The Series) ahead of its season two premiere.
