Following last year’s success of Trollhunters‘ inaugural Netflix season, creator Guillermo del Toro and DreamWorks Animation are set to expand the fantasy series’ universe with two new interconnected shows. Set in the Trollhunters universe, the trilogy will be called the Tales of Arcadia and includes 3 Below, to be released in 2018, and Wizards, which will debut in 2019.
DreamWorks 3 Below will follow two royal teenage aliens who are fleeing a surprise takeover of their home planet by an evil dictator and crash land in Arcadia. DreamWorks Wizards will bring together all of the worlds of aliens, trolls and wizards into Arcadia, culminating in an apocalyptic battle for the control of magic.
Trollhunters premiered in 2016 and went on to win six Daytime Emmys. The series is created and executive produced by del Toro with Marc Guggenheim, Rordgio Blaas, Chad Hammes and Christina Steinberg serving as executive producers. The second season of Trollhunters was announced earlier this week and is will bow on Netflix on December 15. The series, which has been deemed the SVOD’s most-watched kids original ever, helped propel Netflix to a quarterly record for global sign-ups last year.
