Millarworld is releasing The Magic Order as its first comic book franchise created under Netflix’s ownership. Following the streamer’s recent acquisition of Mark Millar’s company, which included a commitment to create original films, series and kids shows based on existing Millarworld franchises and new properties, the comic book author is releasing the new six-issue series this spring.
The Magic Order comic book series is written by Millar and Olivier Coipel (Thor, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man) is on-board as the first volume’s illustrator. It will be made available in print and digital formats.
The comics will meld together magic and the mob as five families of magicians work to protect the world from their enemies. As yet, no plans have been announced to adapt the property for TV or film.
Millar serves as president and chief creative officer of Millarworld. It was founded in 2003 and has produced 18 published character worlds, including Wanted, Kick-Ass and Kingsman, which have all been adapted into movies that combined have grossed roughly US$1 billion at the global box office.
