UK-based kids content distributor CAKE has picked up global distribution rights (excluding Australia, New Zealand and Greater China) to Kiddets, a new sister series to Pukeko Pictures’ popular preschool toon The WotWots. Cake will debut the series at this month’s MIPCOM market in Cannes, France.
Co-produced with China’s Guangdong Huawen Century Animation Company, Kiddets is the first official children’s television co-production between New Zealand and China.
Aimed at older preschool children, Kiddets will add five new WotWot characters, all of whom are young space cadets in training. The new series was announced in 2015, but no air date has been set.
The WotWots (78 x 11 minutes) premiered in New Zealand on TVNZ in 2009 and became popular in Asia after bowing on China’s IPTV service BesTV in November 2011. The show’s two seasons have aired in more than 100 countries. CAKE will now look to extend The WotWot‘s reach further, as the distributor has also taken North American and European rights to season two of the series.
