DHX Media has signed 16 new licensing agreements for season two of its CGI-animated underwater adventure series The Deep. The 13 x half-hour season is headed to countries across the globe, including Finland Portugal and Russia.
New broadcasters on-board include Universal Kids (US), Nickelodeon (Greece), NRK Super (Norway), YLE (Finland), POP (Italy), Biggs (Portugal), RTBF’s OUFtivi (Belgium), MBC3 (Middle East), Minimax (CEE), KidZone TV (Baltics), Multimania (Russia), Hop! (Israel), SVT (Sweden), TSR (Switzerland), SRC (French Canada) and Zap (Angola and Mozambique).
Australia’s ABC ME, CBBC (UK), Netflix (US), Germany’s Super RTL and Canada’s Family CHRGD were previously announced. The new episodes started rolling out weekly in July on CBBC in the Faves at Five slot with the next launch slated for August 22 on ABC ME daily.
The Deep is co-produced by Australia’s A Stark Production (scripts, design and music), DHX Media (animation, post-production and distribution) and Technicolor, which holds the underlying rights to the property. CPLG, a DHX Media company, has been appointed by Technicolor as the property’s licensing agent in North America, EMEA (excluding Germany) and Latin America.
The series follows the Nekton family on their underwater adventures involving mysteries and monsters. In season, two the family embarks on a heated search for the lost city of Lemuria. It is based on an award-winning graphic novel series created by Tom Taylor (Superior Iron Man, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Star Wars: Blood Ties), illustrated by James Brouwer (Justice League Beyond) and published by Gestalt Comics. Taylor is also the series’ co-creator and head writer, with Brouwer on-board as co-creator and art director.
