The House of Mouse is ready for more of The Lion Guard, with the animated series’ second season premiering today with two back-to-back episodes on Disney Channel.
The Lion Guard follows the adventures of Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, and targets kids ages two to seven. The new eps will feature acclaimed actor David Oyelowo (Selma) as the voice of Scar, Mufasa’s villainous younger brother. The second season will see Scar return in the flames of a volcano after Kion accidentally summons him. Scar will make his first appearance in the series on July 29.
Earlier this year, the orginal series was greenlit for a third season. The Lion Guard has reached 85 million total viewers across linear TV in the past year, including 17 million kids ages two to eight and 34 million adults ages 18 to 49. The series has garnered an additional 72 million engagements through Disney Junior VOD and the Disney Junior App.
The Lion Guard voice cast includes Rob Lowe (Simba), Gabrielle Union (Nala), Max Charles (Kion), Joshua Rush (Bunga) and Atticus Shaffer (Ono). Additional guest stars featured in the upcoming episodes include Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton), Common (Selma), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) and AJ Mclean (Backstreet Boys).
The show’s creative team includes executive producer Ford Riley (Special Agent Oso), co-executive producer and supervising director Howy Parkins (Jake and the Never Land Pirates), composer Christopher Willis (Mickey Mouse) and singer/songwriter Beau Black (Mickey and the Roadster Racers).
