Toronto, Canada-based producer and distributor Portfolio Entertainment has sold its preschool series The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That! to a number of international broadcasters.
Ultra Kids (Ex-Yugoslavia) and Sony Pictures Television Networks (the UK and Africa) have picked up the show’s first two seasons. Additionally, Sony acquired the property’s four hour-long movies, The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About Camping, The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About Space, The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About Halloween and The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About Christmas.
The movies were also picked up by E-Junior and Discovery Kids in the Middle East and Africa. (Discovery Kids also added the show’s third season to its lineup.) Additional linear broadcast partners include MiniMini+ in Poland, which picked up the third season, and the Irish pubcaster TG4, which inked a deal for season one and the movie The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About Christmas.
In the SVOD space, MBC’s Gobo.net (the Middle East) acquired the show’s second season, and Horng En Culture (Taiwan) picked up both DVD and SVOD rights for all four movies.
Earlier this year, production began on the show’s third season. The new episodes are being produced and animated in-house at Portfolio’s Toronto-based animation studio. The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That! is produced in association with Random House Children’s Books and Dr. Seuss Enterprises and is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Education through a Ready To Learn grant.
The 20 x half-hour series airs on PBS KIDS in the US and on Corus Entertainment’s Treehouse in Canada.
