Nickelodeon is readying a new hand-drawn Rocko’s Modern Life one-hour special—and reuniting the retro toon’s original cast in the process.
Based on the ’90s classic series, Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling will see the titular character—a wallaby that emigrated from Australia to the US—and his friends come back to Earth after being lost in outer space since 1996. (The Nick series originally aired from 1993 to 1996.)
The cast includes Carlos Alazraqui (The Fairly OddParents) as Rocko, Spunky and Leon; Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Heffer Wolfe, Chuck and Really Really Big Man; Mr. Lawrence (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Filburt Turtle and Maitre D’; and Charlie Adler (Blaze and the Monster Machines) as Ed Bighead, Bev Bighead, Mr. Dupette, Grandpa Wolfe and Mrs. Fathead.
Bowing in 2018, the special is written and executive produced by original series creator Joe Murray. Cosmo Serguson will serve as director and will play a character name Pillow Salesman.
Rocko’s Modern Life isn’t the only old-school Nick show getting the special treatment. Two-hour TV movie Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie will premiere this fall, picking up where the original story left off in 2004. Invader Zim is also coming back to life with a 90-minute TV movie.
The news also comes only a few days after the kidsnet announced that it would be rolling out a SpongeBob SquarePants special in time for Halloween.
