Germany-based Studio 100 Media (Maya the Bee) is partnering with the UK’s Red Kite Animation (Wendy) on the animated co-production Princess Emmy–The Movie.

Based on the popular book series from German publisher Egmont Ehapa, Princess Emmy follows the adventures of a young princess and her 26 horses (the names of which correspond to each letter in the alphabet).

Studio 100 Media’s distribution arm Studio 100 Film  is managing worldwide rights to the film, while its parent company, Studio 100 NV of Belgium, is also on-board to co-produce.

Princess Emmy, which has already been pre-sold in 98 countries, will be directed by Piet de Rycker (Laura’s Star, Little Polar Bear) and is expected to premiere in 2018.

The news comes as Studio 100 Media is preparing the 2017/18 launch of Maya the Bee 2 – The Honey Games, the sequel to its hit 2014 animated feature Maya The Bee.
