Mexico’s Ánima Estudios and Cartoon Network Latin America have named animation shorts from Colombia and Mexico as the winners of a new collaborative animation contest aimed to support the region’s burgeoning industry and promote new talent.
Out of 200 entries from Latin America and the Caribbean, The Seventh Knight from creators Andrés Eduardo Luna Rivera and Sebastián Felipe Luna Rivera of Colombia grabbed top spot in the animated short film category (up to two minutes). WTQ: What the quest is this? (pictured) by Ernesto Molina of Mexico, meanwhile, garnered first place in the animated series category (seven to 11 minutes).
The Seventh Knight follows the adventures of a brave knight who does battle with a seven-eyed monster to save the seventh daughter of the seventh King of the seventh Kingdom.
WTQ: What the quest is this? depicts three videogame characters who end up coping with everyday life after entering the real world.
After each receiving a cash prize and the production of their concepts by Ánima Estudios, both shorts will premiere on Cartoon Network LATAM this month, as well as on its online platforms.
The contest was open to creators between 19 to 30 years old, and the winning comedic ideas for kids ages six to 11 were selected based on their innovative concept, design, story, characters and technique.
