On the heels of a successful first season, CGI-animated preschool series Messy Goes To Okido from British prodco Squint/Opera has been picked up for season two by CBeebies.
The IP’s international distributor, DHX Media, is also returning to handle global distribution for television and home video, while London-based Eye Present (a joint-venture between Serious Lunch CEO Genevieve Dexter and Squint/Opera) remains the brand’s worldwide L&M manager.
Since making its television debut on the Beeb in spring 2015, the 52 x 11-minute science- and action-based series has been snapped up by broadcasters including IQIYI (China), Piwi+ (France), RTVE Clan (Spain), ABC4 Kids (Australia), Family Jr (English Canada), Télémagino (French Canada), Amazon Prime Video (the UK and Germany), E-Junior (Middle East), Carousel (Russia) and EBS (South Korea).
On the licensing front, an Okido talking plush range from toyco Golden Bear has launched at UK retail, while Thames & Hudson has published a range of 12 books. Penguin Random House continues to publish a bimonthly Okido art and science magazine for kids with support from the series’ financiers Creative Europe, Skillset and the Wellcome Trust.
DVDs are also expected from Dazzler, and an intuitive music app will be released later this year.
