Playmobil scores How to Train Your Dragon license

The toyco will feature the DreamWorks brand in its 2017 product line, which is Playmobil's first to feature third-party entertainment properties.

German toyco Brandstätter Group has reached a licensing agreement with DreamWorks Animation to feature the How to Train Your Dragon brand in its Playmobil product line.

The playsets will be geared towards boys and girls ages three to 11, and will be released in fall 2017.

Hiccup—the young Viking protagonist of How to Train Your Dragon—and his fiery friend Toothless will be prominently featured in the new line, along with other characters from the property. The figures are three inches tall and designed to encourage imaginative role play.

In June, Playmobil struck a deal with Sony Pictures Consumer Products to launch a line of toys inspired by the original Ghostbusters IP. The Ghostbusters-inspired toys will also debut in 2017, marking the first time the company will launch licensed playsets based on third-party entertainment properties.

Last year, the toyco scored its first North American license in a deal with the National Hockey League. The line features interactive players and goalies, an ice rink, referees and a Zamboni ice-resurfacing machine.
