Australia’s ABC Commercial and The Wiggles have reached an exclusive global license agreement that gives ABC Commercial global distribution rights for the entire catalog of the children’s entertainment group’s music, audio books, television and video productions.
The multi-million-dollar five-year deal includes future releases as well as back-catalog content, and gives the public broadcaster’s commercial arm the rights to distribute content across a range of platforms including DVD, electronic sell-through, SVOD and mobile.
The Wiggles originally signed with ABC Commercial in 1991 for the release of their first album, and ABC has since served as the group’s local distributor. This agreement marks the first time the broadcaster has been given rights to distribute The Wiggles’ slate on an international scale.
Earlier this year, the group celebrated its 25th anniversary with an Australian Big Show arena tour. The Wiggles have been experiencing a recent resurgence with sold-out concert sales and strong ratings for their preschool series Ready, Steady, Wiggle. Last year, Hulu struck a deal for the show’s exclusive debut in the US.
