Cult classic ’90s hit Rocko’s Modern Life is heading back to Nickelodeon in the form of an original one-hour TV special executive produced by the series’ original creator Joe Murray.

Greenlit on August 11, the exact date of Nick’s 25th anniversary of original creator-driven animation, the special will bring back all the show’s favorite anthropomorphic characters including title character and Australian wallaby Rocko and his two best friends, loyal bovine Heffer Wolfe and neurotic turtle Filburt.

An airdate and casting announcements for the special are expected to be revealed in the coming months.

Originally airing over four seasons from 1993 to 1996, Rocko’s Modern Life follows the zany adventures of the talking wallaby as he tries to survive daily life, and his annoying frog neighbor Mr. Bighead, in the fictional O-Town.

Following in the footsteps of Ren & Stimpy, the series was popular with kids and adults for its manic energy and pop culture references.

The special comes as Nick continues to ride a wave of nostalgia with recent announcements including a new original Hey Arnold! TV movie for 2017, and a fall premiere for original TV movie Legends of the Hidden Temple based on Nick’s ’90s game show of the same name.

The kidsnet also just launched a ’90s revival-themed consumer products project with New York retailer Story.
