California-based Grom Holdings—the privately held parent company of kids social platform Grom Social—has acquired Top Draw Animation (TDA).
Based in the Philippines, TDA is a leading producer of 2D animation and currently does service work for various properties including Hasbro’s My Little Pony and Tom and Jerry from Warner Bros. COPPA-compliant Grom Social, meanwhile, has been producing live-action short-form content since its inception, and the acquisition of TDA will allow the company to produce animated content in-house.
TDA’s CEO, founder and managing director Wayne Dearing will continue to operate TDA and oversee its production of animated content. Dearing is also taking on the role of EVP, global finance with Grom Social.
Launched in 2012 by then 11-year-old Zach Marks, Grom Social is the teen social media network created “by kids for kids.” Currently, Grom Social has more than three million registered members aged six to 16 in 200-plus countries and territories. The kids-only site requires parental permission to become a member and features a blend of social networking, games, entertainment, videos and articles.
In April, Grom Social unveiled an advertising program targeting kid-centric brands across all consumer product categories.
