In sticking with its plans to feature more learning-based content, mobile platform PlayKids has added Sesame Street music videos and eBooks to its lineup.
The deal with Sesame Workshop will bring varied content to users of PlayKids apps based on where they live. (Playkids’ four app titles combined have been downloaded more than 17 million times.)
For example, in the US and Canada, kids will have access to Sesame Street segments and music videos, while Brazilian kids will be able to stream Elmo’s World, and those in the UK will have Abby’s Flying Fairy School. Meanwhile, Elmo the Musical will be available in Latin America.
eBook titles available globally include Abby in Wonderland, The ABCs of Cookies (pictured), Elmo Loves You and How to Be a Grouch.
The book content, in particular, falls in line with the platform’s plans to bolster its presence in the virtual storybook space. Earlier this spring, nine months after receiving a US$15-million investment from its Brazilian parentco Movile, the service launched PlayKids Stories, along with PlayKids Talk and PlayKids Party. To date, PlayKids Stories has secured book content from the likes of Disney, Pixar and Marvel.
All four PlayKids apps are now available in more than 100 countries and in 16 languages via a varied monthly subscription rate that hovers between US$3 and US$7.
