Continuing with its refocused efforts on games, media and consumer products following summer layoffs, Finland’s Rovio Entertainment has launched video-streaming platform ToonsTV as a stand-alone app for iOS and Android.

Rovio initially launched the video channel in March 2013 for its animated Angry Birds Toons series via its mobile game titles, and in September of that year it began acquiring third-party content.

The platform is currently home to more than 30 channels that feature free, on-demand video content and original scripted animated series Angry Birds Toons, Piggy Tales and Stella, as well as third-party shows like Wallace and Gromit, Pucca, Qumi-Qumi and National Geographic’s Zooville and 50 Birds, 50 States.

While ToonsTV will continue to be available via Rovio’s games, new episodes of Angry Birds Toons and Stella will debut on the standalone app, which includes a play all mode, a my history feature and post-video recommendations.

Rovio’s EVP of media Tuomo Korpinen, who joined the company in August, said with more than five billion views globally from within its mobile games, the time was right to create an app version of the popular platform.
