Following the successful debut of Disney Channel original movie Descendants, the House of Mouse is set to launch a spin-off, animated short-form series, Descendants Wicked World, on Friday, September 18.

The series, which is set in the movie’s magical worlds of Auradon and Isle of the Lost, will premiere on Disney Channel and across its digital platforms including the WATCH Disney Channel app.

Descendants Wicked World kicks off after the final scene of Descendants closes and features voice work from the stars of the movie, including Dove Cameron (Mal), Sofia Carson (Evie), and Cameron Boyce (Carlos).

It will introduce new characters and showcase four original songs that were featured as bonus tracks on Walt Disney Records’ hit Descendants soundtrack, which currently sits atop the iTunes soundtrack chart in the US.

Lab Rats‘ Julia Miranda wrote the new series, while Jennifer Magee-Cook (The Pirate Fairy) and Aliki Theofilopoulos Grafft (Mickey Mouse shorts) are executive producing, with Grafft serving as director, too.

The live-action adventure-comedy movie Descendants stars the progeny of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar and Cruella de Vil.

Its premiere telecast on July 31 attracted more than 10.5 million total viewers in Nielsen’s live +3-day ratings, making it the most-watched cable TV movie of 2015 and the top-rated telecast in two years for kids two to 11 and tweens nine to 14.

Fans of the movie have also been flocking to the Descendants YouTube page to stream 23-part short-form series School of Secrets, which has generated more than nine million views to date.

Descendants is told through the eyes of the students attending Auradon Prep, a school where the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains have been given a chance at redemption.
