In ramping up its scripted content, Disney EMEA has commissioned live-action drama North Star (working title). The new UK-produced series is slated for launch in multiple territories in 2016.

Produced by Zodiak Kids Studios’ UK-based production arm The Foundation, the series is a remake of the Disney Channel Israel original series of the same name that bowed in November 2014.

The 13 x 22-minute series, which has musical elements, tells the story of 15-year-old Maia, who navigates ordinary teen pressures that include trying to fit in, frenemies, a love triangle, and a mystery that shakes everything up.

The commission follows in the footsteps of recent Disney EMEA original live-action productions Violetta and The Evermoor Chronicles, which was greenlit for a full season earlier this spring. The original Evermoor four-part miniseries attracted 1.6 million viewers in the UK.
