German distributor Studio 100 Film has sold its CG-animated Maya the Bee Movie to pan-European entertainment company Primal Screen, which will roll the feature film out to cinemas in the UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland in October.
Since its release last year, Studio 100 Film has sold Maya the Bee Movie into more than 160 territories, including North America.
Produced by Studio 100 Media and Buzz Studios, in association with Australia’s Flying Bark Productions, Maya the Bee Movie features a voice cast including Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), Noah Taylor (Game of Thrones, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and Miriam Margolyes (Harry Potter, Babe).
Maya the Bee has been going strong as an IP for more than 100 years, since first launching in 1912 as a children’s book by German author Waldemar Bonsels. It has since spawned a comic book series, a Japanese anime TV series in the mid-’70s and a current CGI series that launched in 2012. This latest TV offering has proven to be a hit in the UK, earning a top-five ranking in Freeview homes for Sony Pictures Television’s preschool channel Tiny Pop in April 2015.
In support of the new movie launches, Studio 100 International plans to introduce a wide range of merchandise in the UK and Nordic territories, and is looking to sign new L&M partners.
