London-based distributor CAKE has joined forces with L.A.’s Titmouse and brand owner C3 Entertainment to produce a new Three Stooges animated series.
The plan is for the 52 x 11-minute series to be directed by a group of directors, who will each take the lead on several episodes, with Titmouse (Turbo FAST, Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja) handling production. A pilot animatic was created with Christy Karacas (Superjail!) as director, and additional directors will be added in a second stage.
Aiming for the same broad family appeal of the classic Three Stooges IP, the series will feature plenty of slapstick humor but limited dialogue. And CAKE and Titmouse are gearing up to introduce it to potential partners at Annecy this month.
Nearly 100 years old, The Three Stooges is one of the most recognizable brands worldwide. Larry, Moe and Curly have appeared in a whopping 220 films, as well as numerous TV appearances and DVD releases. Most recently, a live-action film called The Three Stooges was released theatrically in April 2012.
